Kate Gibson Trophy

When families move in to a new school, it is often suggested that they join swimming club as a way of involving themselves in the school and its community. The Gibson family did just that when they moved from Townsville back in 2000. Over the next 10 years it became very apparent that this was a family with talented boys and a mother who endeared herself to all through her kindness, compassion and willingness to help those in her community. Ben, Angus and Will each went on to become age champions and club captains. As a long serving committee member, Kate excelled as carnival organiser and singlehandedly revolutionised the club’s computer operations. She always thought of others and was even quietly excited at times, when her son’s friends deservedly beat her own boys. Kate’s passion was always for the quiet achiever and she determinedly found ways for them to shine. Til her devastating death last year, Kate never let her battle with cancer dampen her spirit or eagerness to be involved in our swimming club. In establishing the Kate Gibson Trophy awarded to a person or family for service to the club, the committee and our community honours Kate and her much loved boys’ involvement in the club.
