The Wilston Swim Club starts
this new season with a promotion! Through the efforts of all
our swimmers who competed at Brisbane Swimming Association
meets in 2009/2010 we scored enough points to win Division
4. We have therefore been promoted to the next level – the 3rd
Division. This should make for a challenging summer season
ahead.
It is with great sadness
that we farewelled a wonderful friend and fine Swim Club
member. Kate Gibson passed away in June after a long and
courageous battle with cancer. She was an amazing person
that anyone could rely on and she never stopped helping
others. Her three boys were all excellent swimmers with the
Club and, along with Kate and Rory, contributed a great deal
to make the Club what it is today. I, and the committee, see
it as a small but fitting gesture to honour Kate with the
re-naming of the Sportsmanship Trophy as “The Gibson Family
Trophy.”
A major focus of our Swim
Club is the Learn-to-Swim program. With the appointment of
our Head Coach Anthony McLeod last year we set about
re-shaping the groups, ensured we have well qualified
coaches and generally improved how each group was taught in
the pool. We have already seen children come through to the
Mini-squad level and progress from the 12.5m swim to the 25m
races at Club Night. Rewarding these young achievers with a
new Swim Club trophy at this year’s trophy night was a
highlight for me.
We are looking forward to
another exciting and enjoyable season at the pool in 2010
and 2011. It is pleasing to see so many wearing the Swim
Club shirt with such pride and our caps are easy to spot at
carnivals! Whether they are learning to swim, swimming at
Club Nights or reaching the heights of representative
competition, encourage your swimmers to be part of the
growing Wilston Crocs team. Go the Wilston Crocs!

Hello and welcome everyone
to another exciting season of swimming. Last summer the
Wilston Crocs swim team enjoyed huge success in the pool
picking up loads of silverware on the way to winning the big
one, the Brisbane Division 4 premiership. We saw some
brilliant racing and amazing individual performances,
culminating in a Club Championship meet where long standing
club records were under fire in almost every event.
This season we are
continuing to make improvements to the swimming program at
Wilston Swim Club. We are adding another level to our very
popular learn to swim program to improve the transitioning
between levels, as well as the addition of a high level
competitive squad, the ‘State Squad’. We will also undertake
more coach and instructor training so we can continue to
offer the highest quality swimming coaching and teaching
possible.
I look forward to adding
another chapter to the Wilston Swimming Club’s long history
of giving children and adults the opportunity to enjoy all
the benefits our great sport of swimming has to offer.
